How to build a climate action plan
A climate action plan is your education setting's roadmap to becoming more sustainable.
Why do I need a climate action plan?
Your climate action plan (CAP) helps you set achievable goals and prioritise actions to reduce your environmental impact - at a pace that works for your setting.
The Department for Education expects all education settings in England to nominate a sustainability lead and maintain a climate action plan.
How do I make a plan?
You're likely familiar with creating strategic and operational plans that guide your education setting's vision and day-to-day activities. A climate action plan is very similar, focusing on your objectives and actions for sustainability.
You might have already started projects that can be included in your plan. Our resources can help you identify actions, prioritise what you want to achieve, and set out a clear strategy.
