Funded by the DfE, Climate Ambassadors match volunteer climate experts with education settings.
Part of Let’s Go Zero, Climate Action Advisors are independent experts who offer free support for schools, colleges, and nurseries across England.
Start your energy mini journey
Understand the types of emissions (Scopes) that contribute to your setting's carbon footprint
Greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions can be divided into three categories: Scope 1, Scope 2 and Scope 3. These are commonly used in sustainability resources, so it's worth becoming familiar with them.
Complete an energy review
An energy review assesses your setting's energy consumption patterns, sources, and efficiency levels. It involves doing a walk-through of your site, and analysing your energy bills.
Collect Scope 1 and 2 data
Gather information on your setting's energy consumption. You can collect this data by checking energy bills, meters, or asking your utility company to help you.
Analyse Scope 1 and 2 data
Analyse the information you have collected on your setting's energy consumption (Scope 1 and 2). This will help you to understand your data and trends in your energy use.
Agree some initial energy efficiency and decarbonisation aims
Set some short-term goals, interventions and behaviour changes to reduce your energy consumption and increase the energy efficiency of your setting.
