Create a sustainability working group
Assemble a team of your staff members and stakeholders to collaborate on sustainability projects. This team will discuss, plan and implement sustainable practices.
Build your leaderships' knowledge and awareness
This involves increasing your leadership team's knowledge and awareness of the key issues, and challenges related to sustainability and climate change.
Understand what data is available across all areas of sustainability
Identify and gather information related to sustainability, such as energy usage, waste generation, water consumption and spend data.
Assess the current sustainability position of your setting
Speak to your staff and children or young people (where appropriate) to identify what actions you are already taking to become more sustainable, and where there are opportunities for improvement.
Identify your sustainability priorities
Determine which sustainability issues or goals are most important to your setting. Assess factors such as energy efficiency, waste reduction, outdoor learning, travel, biodiversity, heat and flood risk.
