Embed climate education and green skills across teaching and learning
Create a dialogue between your climate education, other subjects, and your setting's operations.
By exposing learners to green careers across multiple subjects, you help them see the real-world applications of their learning. This will inspire interest in sustainable industries and help learners make connections between their learning and potential careers.
Develop a process to ensure that any updates to the curriculum, teaching and learning at your setting are informed by evidence and reviewed regularly to keep abreast of the latest advancements in sustainability. Staff will need to receive regular carbon literacy training, and to develop their knowledge base.
Use data and information you already have about your setting's site and integrate it into your climate education programme. For example, if your setting has solar panels, you could embed learning about decarbonisation and how solar panels work.
Develop a programme for the long term, routine integration of estates data into your climate education and green skills learning. This includes ensuring your sustainability lead, estates manager or team, and curriculum team have an established process for identifying new potential opportunities to use estates data as a tool across all subject matter.
Use the completed or in-progress sustainability projects in your long term sustainability plan as regular learning opportunities for your learners.
