About
Explore the support, expertise and partnerships available in your local community to help progress your sustainability goals and projects. This could include your local authority, businesses, community and climate action groups, charities, other educational settings and local organisations.
Your local authority may be able to provide advice, connect you with relevant networks or programmes, facilitate collaboration with other settings and offer guidance on local sustainability priorities and regulations. They may also be aware of grants, incentives, funding opportunities or local partnerships that could support your work.
Why
Working with local partners can help you access knowledge, expertise and resources that may not be available within your setting. They also may be better placed to support the particular challenges of your context and help you focus your efforts on action that is relevant to your local place and community.
How
Your sustainability lead can coordinate this, with support from colleagues who have relationships with local organisations and your wider community.
Start by identifying what support you need. Map out what this might be and then prioritise which ones you’re going to work with. Avoid multiple people approaching the same local partners without coordination.
Before working with an external organisation or inviting visitors into your setting, follow your normal procedures for due diligence, DBS clearance, safeguarding and risk assessment.
