Use local climate data in the curriculum

Find ways to incorporate local weather patterns, temperature trends, and climate-related events into your setting's educational activities and wider teaching and learning. This includes teaching about seasonal changes, weather phenomena, and how these factors affect their environment. Use hooks identified in your curriculum audit to find relevant placement.

You can also use data collected on site. Meter readings can provide a range of curriculum opportunities to develop numeracy, like monitoring patterns as a simple way of introducing the use of graphs.

Benefits include enhancing learners's understanding of climate science, fostering curiosity about their surroundings, and promoting awareness of environmental changes. Integrating local climate data also connects classroom learning to real-world experiences, encourages critical thinking, and prepares learners to appreciate the importance of climate resilience and adaptation. It empowers them to become informed advocates for sustainable practices in their community.
