Maximise your use of outdoor space to improve biodiversity

Review the current outdoor learning spaces and programmes at your setting with a focus on promoting biodiversity. Explore ways to increase their usage and maximise their potential.

Consider how the physical space can support diverse ecosystems and habitats, encouraging learners to engage with a variety of plant and animal life. Assess the amount of time dedicated to outdoor learning, ensuring that learners have ample opportunities to connect with nature and observe biodiversity firsthand.

Collaborate closely with your site and teaching teams to identify effective solutions, such as creating wildlife-friendly areas, native plant gardens, or pollinator pathways. Be open to experimenting with different approaches that foster a deeper understanding and appreciation of biodiversity, while enhancing the overall outdoor learning experience.
