About

Explore funding opportunities that can help you develop and deliver projects that create, enhance and connect spaces for nature, wildlife and learning.

Funding could help you create or improve spaces such as:

  • Ponds, wetlands and rain gardens
  • Wildflower meadows and pollinator-friendly planting
  • Wildlife habitats, including bird and bat boxes
  • Trees, hedgerows and woodland areas
  • Outdoor learning, food-growing and nature areas

Why

Creating biodiverse spaces can make settings more attractive and enjoyable places to learn and work, with potential benefits for attendance, wellbeing and engagement. They can also support local wildlife, improve air quality and help settings build resilience to heat.

They offer valuable learning opportunities, helping learners connect with nature while developing practical green skills such as planting, growing and nature surveying.

How

Teachers and other staff can apply for most biodiversity grants, particularly where they have a clear idea for a project.

Make sure you:

  • Have capacity to maintain projects longer term
  • Check planning requirements before starting work - including any additional requirements if your setting is a listed building
  • Check eligibility carefully - some funds prioritise factors such as levels of deprivation or percentage of learners with special educational additional needs, while others are more general
  • Read the terms and conditions carefully and meet all the funder's requirements

If you are part of a group: Settings will often be required to apply for funding on an individual basis rather than as part of a group.
