Develop a process to assess the biodiversity impact of any changes, improvements, or refurbishments to your site and buildings. Consider conducting environmental assessments and biodiversity impact evaluations from the outset, to identify any impacts on plant life, species, and outdoor spaces.
You may need to engage a professional service provider who has the expertise to carry out an assessment. Ideally, there should be no negative effects on your setting’s biodiversity, but if unavoidable, explore potential mitigations or positive actions to offset the impact. For an effective approach, integrate these considerations into the initial business case stage and carry them through to the build stage.
Early integration allows potential risks to biodiversity to be identified and addressed before plans are finalised, reducing the likelihood of costly redesigns or unexpected ecological damage later on.
This proactive approach helps ensure that the ecological health of your site is preserved and enhanced wherever possible. It also helps maintain the integrity of previous biodiversity efforts, ensuring that your investment of time, resources, and care into creating a thriving natural environment at your setting is preserved.
