At this stage in your journey you will have already aligned your setting's policies, strategies and operational management with your sustainability strategy and plan. To build on this, it is important you now embed environmental considerations into any decision-making processes.
This integration can range from everyday small actions to high-level strategic decisions. As a minimum it could look like ensuring that 'environment and sustainability' are included on all relevant meeting agendas. In some instances, this may require more thorough reflection and consideration, such as budget and financial planning, policy development, health and safety protocols, and event planning.
By applying an environment-centric approach across all areas, including teaching, estates, procurement, operations, and resource management, you can empower and motivate everyone within your setting to take responsibility for the environment, regardless of their position. It will take time to develop and embed this approach as your setting progresses on its sustainability journey, as you gain increasing buy-in at all levels of leadership and operations. This approach ensures that environmental sustainability becomes a core value guiding all aspects of your setting's operations and decision-making processes.
