Develop learners' awareness of nature stewardship
When learners learn good environmental stewardship, they learn that they are responsible for other living things and that they play a key role in caring for and protecting the natural world. This needs to develop into active participation in conservation efforts and sustainable practices. Pitch this in a way that engages your learners using a non-threatening, open and discovery-led approach.
Spending time in nature is one of the key ways to achieve this. Lean on your outdoor learning programme and the space available to you to foster plant care and build sustainable behaviours. A window box in a classroom could also be an option.
Building a sense that we are part of something bigger, that the local effects the global and every action has an impact on the wider world, helps instil empathy for nature. Aim to cultivate a lifelong connection with the environment, laying a foundation for future conservation efforts.
