Part of Let’s Go Zero, Climate Action Advisors are independent experts who offer free support for schools, colleges, and nurseries across England.
Audit your site suppliers
Identify any vendors and contractors you use to provide goods and services in the management of your grounds. Gather information about their policies, certifications, sourcing, and commitment to biodiversity, to understand the environmental practices of this group of suppliers. It can be helpful to create a supplier questionnaire to facilitate easy comparison and evaluation.
This enables you to identify opportunities for improvement by working together. It will help you to foster long-term, collaborative relationships with suppliers who demonstrate a strong commitment to environmentally sound practices.
It will also help you to identify and set biodiversity and environmental metrics that can be used to monitor supplier performance in the long term. This might include sustainable sourcing, chemical use and pollution, and water use. Additionally, you can use the information gathered in this audit to develop criteria for assessing the environmental practices of any potential suppliers.
